While today’s big news stories were a leadership spill, The Oscars (I am going to steal Uggie, Seriously) and that motherfucking Radiohead are finally touring, there was also some sad venue news coming out of Melbourne.
Miss Libertine will be closing their doors for the last time in mid-march. While cheap pizza, rather than live music may have been a drawcard for many patrons, it’s always sad to see venues go. There’s no word on what caused the closure but this statement was released on the Facebook page:
“For over 5 years Miss Libertine has been a platform to some of Melbourne’s most innovative and established music and art scenes. It has hosted local and international acts and seen newcomers become stars and stars become legends. The Libertine space has been a home to many different performers, djs, bands and local crews hosting a showcase of amazing parties, events and installations.
“The family at Miss Libertine would like to sincerely thank our staff, punters, promoters and all the groupies who have made our past 5 years as a music venue so electric and unforgettable.”
The Buffalo Club also appears to have closed its doors but nothing has been confirmed. I’ll keep you posted if any news gets released.
